Microsoft Corporation, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, United States, is the largest software companies in the world (with more than 50,000 employees in various countries, up to May 2004).
Microsoft develops, manufactures, and supports various types of licensed software products for various computing devices. The most famous products are the Microsoft Windows operating system group, which has existed everywhere in the desktop computer market.
Microsoft’s aggressive business strategy has resulted in several government investigations, including a federal lawsuit in 1998 in which Microsoft is alleged to have illegally used its monopoly power to defeat rivals; through the action of appeals and negotiations, Microsoft has reduced the influence of these decisions on the operation of the company and the status its finances.
Microsoft sells a variety of software products. Many of these products are developed internally, such as Microsoft Basic. Some products are bought from another party then re-brand by Microsoft for its distribution, such as Microsoft Project, a project management program; Visio, a tabulator program; DoubleSpace; Virtual PC purchased from CONNECTIX; and even MS-DOS itself, which becomes Microsoft’s early success in the world of manufacturing and marketing of software.
