Lincoln brand was founded in 1917 in Detroit by Henry M. Leland, founder of Cadillac. After the First World War, Henry Leland began to establish itself as a luxury car manufacturer but it suffers from significant financial woes. The company was then purchased by Henry Ford in 1922 making it the prestige division.
If the presidents of the United States Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge are each owned a Lincoln L (respectively in 1921 and 1924), it was not until 1939 that Lincoln became the official supplier to the White House to Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Named “Sunshine Special”, the car is specially built for the car parade official travel of the President.
This tradition continues until President George Bush. The brand is so tragically associated with President John F. Kennedy, assassinated in the back of his Lincoln Continental X-100 in Dallas November 22, 1963.
The company promises five new models between 2004 and 2008 and has already begun with the introduction of the Mark LT pickup truck based on Ford F-150, Zephyr and MKX sedan replacing the Aviator. There is also the introduction of the new MKS large sedan in 2009. And in the U.S. alone, a introuduccion 7-passenger family crossover called MKT, based on the American crossover Ford Flex.
