Germania (Germania Fluggesellschaft mbH) is a German airline based in Berlin. The company is currently conducting flight in a so-called wet lease construction for other German airlines, such as Condor and conduct a limited number of flights under the brand name itself Germania Express.
Germania was founded in April 1978 in Cologne as the SAT and began flying in September 1978. The name was changed in June 1986 in Germania. In 1992 the headquarters moved to Berlin Tegel Airport. In the same year won the tender for Germania flights between the former West German capital Bonn and Berlin the new capital on behalf of the German Government, the “Beamten-Shuttle” (shuttle for civil servants), but remained only a short time.
Between June 2003 and March 2005 Germania was active in the low-cost segment of the market, the subsidiary “Gexx” (Germania Express). This company was incorporated in March 2005 in dba, which in turn several months later was taken over by Air Berlin.
The main activity of the company is now conducting charter flights to other airlines: Germania fly, along with others, in order to include the TUI tour operator and airline TUIfly. Under the name Germania Express is further carried out a connection between Cologne / Bonn and Tbilisi (February 2007).
