Garuda Indonesia is the national airline of Indonesia. Eagle is the name of the mythical bird of legend puppet. From the June 2007, this flight, along with other Indonesian airlines, barred from flying on European routes for safety reasons, however, the ban was lifted two years later, in 2009, a year earlier, the airline has received certification of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) of IATA, which means that Garuda has been entirely meet international aviation safety standards. Garuda airline on the list of four stars from Skytrax, which means it has good performance and service. In 2012 Garuda would join the SkyTeam airline alliance.
Dated January 26, 1949 is considered as the anniversary of this airline. At that time the airline’s name is Indonesian Airways. Their first aircraft named Seulawah or Gold Mountain, named after famous mountains in Aceh. Funds to purchase the aircraft is derived from donations of the people of Aceh, the plane was bought for 120,000 dollars in Malaya which is equal to 20 kg of gold.
The airline continued to support Indonesia until the end of the revolution against the Dutch. Garuda Indonesia flight monopoly gain concessions from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in the year 1950 of Koninklijke Luchtvaart Nederlandsch-Indische Maatschappij (KNILM), the national airline Dutch East Indies.
Garuda is the result of a joint venture between the Government of Indonesia with the Dutch airline Luchtvaart Koninklijke Maatschappij (KLM). At first, the Government of Indonesia owns 51% shares and during the first 10 years, the company is managed by KLM. Because of nationalist coercion, KLM sold part of its stake in 1954 the Indonesian government.
