This brand was officially closed by the Ford Motor Company in 2011 after Ford just wants to focus on Ford and Lincoln brands only. Mercury is the last car, a Grand Marquis, out of the factory on January 4, 2011.
When vans and SUVs became popular in the 90 Mercury Villager launched in 1993 and the Mountaineer in 1997. The Villager was also in line with the Nissan Quest and the Mountaineer was based on the Ford Explorer. In 1994, Mercury had a new peak moment with more than 480,000 units sold. Mercury starting in 2006 had a relatively modest range of six models that were based on models from Ford.
