Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España, SA, operates under the name Iberia Airlines is the national airline of Spain. Headquarters in Madrid. It operates domestic and international flights to 102 destinations in 39 countries. With the mechanism of codesharing, the airline also offers 90 other destinations. Its main base is Madrid-Barajas Airport and Barcelona El Prat Airport. The airline also operates regional flights to flag Iberia Regional (operated by Air Nostrum).
On 8 April 2010, the airline signed a merger contract with England’s national carrier, British Airways. The parent company is a combination of both airlines International Airlines Group, headquartered in Spain. Even so, the two airlines still operate separately. Merging means that this group is the third largest airline in the world (by revenue).
The airline was established on June 28, 1927 with an investment of 1.1 million pesetas by Spanish businessman Horacio Echeberrieta, with the help of the German airline, Lufthansa.
