Finnair Plc (Finnair Oyj) is the national airline and the largest in Finland, with its headquarters on land owned by the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Vantaa, Finland, with a main hub at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Finnair and its subsidiary companies dominate the market for domestic and international flights in Finland. Largest owner is the Finnish government with a 55.8% stake.
Finnair is a member of the oneworld alliance. In 2006, the airline carrying 8.8 million passengers, in a network of 15 domestic destinations and 55 international destinations. In addition there are also 50 seasonal charter flights destinations. Skytrax gives award to Finnair as a 4 star airline.
In 1923, Finnair consul Bruno Lucander founded under the name Aero O / Y (Aero Ltd). Company code derived from the name AY = Aero Yhtiö ie companies in Finland.
