The format was developed by a coalition of corporations, known as the DVD + RW Alliance, in late 1997, although the standard was abandoned until 2001 when it was extensively revised and expanded capacity of 2.8 GB to 4.7 GB. The recognition for developing the standard is often attributed unilaterally to Philips, a member of the DVD + RW Alliance.

Although DVD + RW has not yet been approved by the DVD Forum, the format is too popular to be ignored by manufacturers, and thus, DVD + RW discs can be played in 3 out of 4 DVD today day.

Avianca S.A. (BVC: AVA) (acronym in Aerovias del Continente Americano Avianca SA, now del Continente Americano SA Aerovías) is the national airline of Colombia since December 5, 1919 when the airline is still using the name originally SCADTA. The airline has its headquarters in Bogotá with its main hub at El Dorado International Airport.

Avianca is Colombia’s largest airline and one of the most important in Latin America: Avianca together with its subsidiaries have the largest destination network (passenger and cargo) in America and has one of the largest and most modern fleets on the continent.

The airline is wholly owned by Avianca-TACA Ltd.., A Latin American company that was founded in the Bahamas with a specialization in air transportation. The airline is listed on the Stock Exchange of Colombia but has never issued shares at all.

Mergers between companies Colombian company Avianca and TACA Salvador is the latest sign that shows that consolidation in the airline sector in Latin America is underway. The new company is formed, Holdco – which is controlled jointly by Avianca and TACA – directly into one of the largest airlines in the region after the Brazilian airline TAM and GOL, with 129 aircraft and flights to over 100 destinations.
