Dortmund airport, its own name: Dortmund Airport is 21 in the east of Dortmund at the city limits to Holzwickede and Unna. The former airfield has developed in recent years to become the third largest commercial airport in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Due to the gradual withdrawal of long-time principal user Eeurowings, the airport has focused on attracting new airlines. Therefore, low cost airlines now make up a large part of air operations.
This is a larger proportion of tourist traffic line, the business aviation and general aviation. On the grounds of the airport there is an operational flying squadron of police Rhine-Westphalia and one of the DRF Air Rescue Station.
