Canal + Group (officially Groupe Canal +) is a French film and television studio and distributor. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vivendi SA and has a video library with more than 5000 films. Vivendi has some aspects of Canal + sold to private investors in Scandinavia (SBS Broadcasting SARL) and Spain (Sogecable) still use the name of Canal +. In Spain, Vivendi SA still has a small stake of 4.78%.

In France, Spain and Poland is the flagship company of a television channel, Canal +. It is an encrypted channel, where viewers must subscribe to the programs to view.
In France, the channel is also an important ‘open’ window. The channel broadcasts mostly known films and sport. The transmitter is only against payment in full to obtain.

Canal + is now often part of a broader package subscriber. In France this is called Canal Sat and Canal + has multiple channels. CanalSat is also in the majority-owned by Vivendi SA.
Canal + is next to Canal + in France from Canal + Cinema, Canal + Sport, Canal + and Canal + Décalé HiTech. CanalSat via satellite, digital cable, IPTV (xDSL) and DVB-T (in France called TNT) offered. In Poland called subscriber package ‘Cyfra +’, Digital + in Spain.

In Flanders, Canal + sold to Telenet in 2004 who renamed the station names in Prime.
In Wallonia, Canal + in 2004 to a consortium who renamed the station names in Be TV. Later the company was sold to VOO.
Tele + in Italy was sold to News Corp. in 2003 the company renamed in Sky Italia and the premium station names renamed in resp. Sky Sports and Sky Cinema.

Canal + in Scandinavia was sold and resold, then in the hands of SBS Broadcasting SARL, the company renamed C More Entertainment channel called Canal + but retained. Canal + in Scandinavia later sold to TV4 Gruppen AB, but retained the name of Canal + channel.
In Spain, Canal + (Sogecable SA) is always a minority holding of Vivendi SA. After the Viasat over, diluted share of Vivendi SA to a minimum (approximately 4%), followed by the acquisition by Prisa fell to 0. Sogecable SA has also the rural generalist free-to-channel “Cuatro” in hand.
