Batavia Air (official name: PT. Metro Batavia) is an airline in Indonesia. Batavia Air commenced operations on January 5, 2002, starting with one Fokker F28 aircraft and two Boeing 737-200. Batavia Air has the IATA code: Y6 and ICAO code: BTV and call sign (callsign): “Batavia Air”.
After numerous incidents and accidents that befall airlines in Indonesia, the Indonesian government to make the ranking of these airlines.
From the results of the ranking which was announced on March 22, 2007, Batavia Air is ranked third, which means only meet minimum safety requirements and there are still some requirements that have not been implemented and potentially reduce the level of aviation safety. Consequently Batavia Air had administrative sanction will be reviewed again every 3 months.
If there is no performance improvement then the Permit Operations Aviation (Air Operator Certificate) may be suspended at any time. However, Batavia quickly improve themselves and eventually got to the first category of the Ministry of Transportation as of year 2009. The airline also is among four Indonesian airlines allowed to fly into the EU since June 2010.
