The FC Zwolle is a Dutch football club from the city of Zwolle, who plays in the second division (Eerste Divisie). The club was founded in 1910 as PEC Zwolle in 1990 and renamed FC Zwolle after the PEC had gone bankrupt. 1978-1985, 1986-1989 and 2002-2004, the club played in the first Dutch league, the Eredivisie.
1928, the PEC reached the final of the KNVB Cup and played professional football since 1955. The PEC was next to the Zwolsche Atletische Club (ZAC) and the Boys Zwolsche one in three top clubs in Zwolle.
While the upper classes and the ZAC Zwolsche Boys of the workers have been attributed to the combined PEC with the middle class.
This resulted in fierce rivalry, particularly between the PEC and the Zwolsche Boys who played in the same league and the stadium was not far away. Nevertheless, the two clubs merged in 1969 under the name PEC Zwolle.
