Stockport County is an English football club based in Stockport, founded in 1883 under the name Heaton Norris Rovers. The club merged with Heaton Norris in 1890 and changed the name to Stockport County. The nickname is derived from the Hatters hat industry where the city is famous.
Until 1900 the club played in the Lancashire League before being admitted to the second class. The club played a while in the second class, but also came up in lower divisions.
In 1997, the club returns to the second class, which played teams like Manchester City, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest. The club finished in eighth place, her best result.
A year later, however, relegated the club. After a number of years in the Football League One in 2010 the club relegated to the Football League Two. The following year, again finished last, making it convenient since 2011 in the Conference National.
