Nicknamed ‘The Owls’ (owls) are derived from Owlerton Stadium, where the club since 1899 has had their home turf. In 1914 changed its name to the Hillsborough stadium.
Kim Olsen became the first Dane, who played for the club. He changed in February 2004 from FC for a sum believed to have been £ 20,000 (approx. DKK 250,000). Olsen played 12 games (five as a substitute) for the club, but was never successful in the club and changed in December 2004 to Silkeborg IF.
Since then, Mikkel Bischoff was the second Dane to the club when he was in March 2006 on loan from his English club Manchester City. In his four appearances for the club he helped to ensure Wednesday’s survival in England’s second-best series, The Championship.
