The Sheffield Football Club is a semi-professional football club from the city of Sheffield, Yorkshire County, England. It was founded in 1857 and plays in the Northern Premier League Division One South, the eighth division tournament in the football league system in England. The fame of Sheffield F.C. is to be the oldest football club in the world.
The Sheffield participates in the oldest football derby in the world against arch-rivals, the second oldest team Hallam FC.
The club has no connection (except the home town and some fields in which they play) with either local professional teams, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Although they relegated him to second place, the original club Sheffield has survived to date because of their cultural heritage and the dedication of his few fans.
In 1855, members of a cricket club in the city of Sheffield organized football to spend the winter months; it is noteworthy that these games are played without any official rules.
On October 24, 1857 Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest formed the Sheffield Football Club. The Sheffield club is officially recognized by FIFA as the oldest football club in the world. It also has the oldest documented football code in England.
Creswick and Prest were responsible for drawing up the rules of the club in 1857, a code called Sheffield Rules. At that time, before the formation of the Football Association (FA), many different types of football were developed and popularly played in England.
For example, each of the different public schools played football according to their own rules, and these were very different.
