Shamrock Rovers is a football club in the Irish capital, Dublin, The club was founded in 1901. From the early 20-1987 the club played at Glenmalure Park Stadium and was the most successful club in the country. The club won more titles and trophies than any other club; there were also supplied 62 players for the national team.
In the seventies, the club had over 20,000 supporters and European games and cup finals to 40,000. In the 80′s this changed, however, there was competition from football on television and the results were at the end of the 80′s not always good and the audience numbers dropped to 3000.
After the stadium was demolished in 1987 the club has no real home more, and has played in various areas, the club will show the Tallaght Stadium building. After 22 years without a home was on March 13, 2009 the new stadium opened with the first home game of the season against Sligo Rovers (who is also the last club in the old stadium was played).
Rovers won 2-1. The club played twice not in the highest class, the first season in 2006because in 2005 the club relegated for the first time in its history directly back to graduate at the earliest opportunity.
