Football Club de Metz is a French football club, founded in 1932 and competing in the Ligue 2. The club plays its home games at the Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien. It is one of the oldest professional clubs in the country and was co-founder of the modern competition in 1932.
Only FC Sochaux and Olympique Marseille played longer in the top division than Metz.
The origins of the club goes back to the merger of SpVgg Metzer, FC Metz and Metis Alte Herren FC Metz on 12 February 1912 which culminated in a merger in 1912 SpVgg club Metz. During this time, Metz still belonged to the German Empire and was the capital of German Lorraine.
After the First World War Metz again under French rule to assist and German clubs were shut down. Some of these members founded in 1919 Cercle Messin on Athletic. Soon the club played a friendly match against a team with players from Nancy, Luneville, and Epinal Remiremont and won 2-1.
After winning the club against Club Francis, CA Paris and AS Strasbourg. This line was drawn in the first championship of the Lorraine in 1919/20. Messin CA group was the winner in the Moselle region and won the final of the Lorraine 3-1 to U.S. Forbach.
The following season the club was the group winner and made the final cut of AS Remiremont (0-7, 0-3). In 1923 the club had first to settle for second place when La Sportive Thionville champion.
In 1925 and 1928 the club could get the title from Thionville, the other years won CAM each. In 1930 and 1932 was it Messine AS (AS Metz) who won the title. On April 15 the club merged with AS Metz FC Metz in order to form.
