Le Mans Union Club 72 is a French football club from the city of Le Mans, which opens in Ligue 2. The club has its training center in La Pincenardière place Mulsanne.
The club was formed in 1985 following a merger between the club Union Sportive du Mans and Stade Olympique du Maine. U.S. was the traditional club of the city in the early years was strong regional and during World War two seasons in the highest class and later played eleven seasons in the second class. In 1974 the club relegated from the second class in 1981 from the third class. SO du Maine in 1984 promoted to the third class. The purpose of the club in the second class was in order to play.
After three seasons the club promoted, but was immediately referred back to the third class. In 1990 the club was promoted back to the champion and second class, where the club would play until 2003. In 1992 and 1993 the club finished in the top 5 and in the latter year took the club to professional status.
On an occasional place in the lower middle after the club was more than adequate and in 2003 became vice-champion behind Le Mans and Toulouse FC promoted as the first to Ligue 1.
After a disappointing last place UC relegated immediately. After a new vice championship behind the club AS Nancy was the absence from the elite to a season limit. The following seasons went smoothly and in Ligue 1 2007/08 the club finished first in the top ten (ninth). After the season 2009/10 Le Mans relegated back to Ligue 2. The club made it to the end for promotion but had to leave that to Dijon FCO also finished in third place but had a better goal difference.
In January 2011 the new stadium was inaugurated at Le Mans, the MMArena. This stadium can accommodate 25,064 spectators and is also used for concerts and rugby matches.
At concerts and other venues where visitors can stand on the field fit 38,000 people in the stadium. The MMArena replaces the Stade Leon-Bollee as home of Le Mans. This stadium was played by Le Mans in 1988 and could hold 17,801 spectators.
Famous former players include Yao Kouassi Gervinho others and Grafite.
