Independence Air (IATA: MAD, ICAO: FDI) was an airline cheap American, which operated only from Washington, DC. Flights began in 1989 as a subcontractor for United Airlines based in Washington-Dulles and from 2000 also Delta Air Lines.
It operated under the name Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA). In December 2002, United risking bankruptcy, he proposed trade agreements less attractive. That’s why the company took its independence (hence its name) November 19, 2003.
