Denmark national football team, which under the arrangements Danish Football Association is a team that has become very competitive in the world of international football since the mid-1980s.
Denmark’s best showing in the international arena was when they won the European Cup in 1992. At that time they actually do not qualify, but because of international sanctions make the football team barred from competing Yugoslavia, they were replaced by the Danish national team who finished second behind Yugoslavia in the qualifying round. Surprisingly, Denmark managed to come out as winners.

The first Danish international match was played 19th October 1908 during the Olympic Games in London. Denmark beat France’s second team 9-0 in the tournament quarterfinals. Denmark then defeated the French first team with all 17-1 and the Danish striker Sophus “Krølben” Nielsen scored 10 goals. Denmark won silver in both 1908 and in 1912.
The Olympic Games were the main focus for the national team during the first several years, and the entire nation came Gunnar “Nu” Hansen’s radio reports from the team’s struggles. In 1948, Denmark won bronze at the Olympics in London, while it was for silver at the Olympics in Rome in 1960.

In 1921 Carl “shoemaker” Hansen was the first Dane professional abroad, when he switched from B 1903 to Glasgow Rangers. Different profiles of the Danish Olympic team like George Smith and Carl Aage priest was also professionals abroad.
Since DBU would not use professional footballers in the national team, it meant that a large number of Danish football’s best players, like Harald Nielsen, played only a relatively small national team and that team was constantly bled.

When players like Ulrik Le Fevre and Johnny Hansen was good in the Danish first division or the national team, they were bought by foreign clubs and could then no longer play for Denmark. Team’s results were therefore inconclusive until 1971, when DBU repealed the exclusion of professional players.
This gave an initial expectation of significant improvement of the national team’s performance, but the results were at first not much better. Until 1984 it was thus not the national team to qualify for either Championship or World Championship.

The Danish national team players used the camps as fun camps away from their hard daily club life. Coach Kurt Nielsen did not hide his support for the social interaction at the expense of results.
This position was changed when Sepp Piontek in 1979 was coach. The former German defender introduced the discipline and winning mentality that had long been lacking in the Danish national team.
At the same time struck a new generation of young players like Preben Elkjaer, Søren Lerby, Frank Arnesen and later Michael Laudrup in the early 1980s through the national team. The team showed glimpses of class, including since Denmark in 1981 defeated the later Italian champions 3-1 in the stadium in qualifying for the World Cup in 1982.
