Charlon Athletic (officially: Charlton Athletic Football Club) – also known as The Addicts (meaning below) – is a football club from Charlton, south-east London, England. The club was founded in 1905 and currently plays in the Football League One. The stadium of the team is called The Valley, located in the Greenwich borough.
Charlton was taken in 1921 in the Football League and achieved promotion to the First Division, 1936th There they remained until relegation in 1957 and in 1947 won the FA Cup.
From the late ’50s to early ’70s Charlton was one of the best clubs in the Second Division. The Valley was the largest stadium in the league and drew crowds of over 70,000.
The descent into the Third Division in 1972, the support of the team brought to a standstill, and a brief advertising campaign in 1975 did not cause an increase of financial support and increased enthusiasm from the fans.
