Fort St. John is a fort located in Quebec on the Richelieu River was built in 1666 by the Carignan-Salt. This is one of the oldest permanent military complexes in North America: it is in fact, after Quebec City, the site has experienced the longest continuous military occupation in North America.
Fort Saint-Jean has been continuously occupied by the military since 1748, when construction of the second fort and the heart of the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu has developed around the fort over the years. Fort Saint-Jean played a crucial role during the American invasion of Quebec in 1775.
