The club was founded in 1952 under the name Burevysnik Chernivtsi. In 1958 the club took the name Avanhard Chernivtsi and in 1965 the present name.
In 1991 the club played in the second class of the Soviet Union crumbled and after the country started the club in the highest class Ukraine.
In the first season there were two sets of ten clubs and Bucovina was sixth. The following season there were sixteen clubs and the club was twelfth. In 1994 the club was divided last with Metalist Kharkiv and relegated.
After a few seasons the club relegated second class. After one season promoted the club, but this was followed by a new degradation. From 2001 to 2010 the club played in the third class and was again promoted.
