The Club Atletico Banfield, Banfield or simply, is a football club based in Banfield, a city 14 km away from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The club was founded in 1896 and was named in honor of Edward Banfield, a leader of the British railway company Gran Ferrocarril Sur.
The club is nicknamed “El Taladro” (The Drill) since 1930, when the newspaper El Pampero wrote that his attackers as drills pierced opposing defenses.
Banfield is traditionally one of the most popular teams in the southern part of the metropolitan area of Greater Buenos Aires, and the most-watched ever in the partido (district) of Lomas de Zamora.
