AZ is a Dutch professional football club from De Zaan, England and plays in Alkmaar. Since 1998, they arrive in the Eredivisie. AZ, originally an acronym for Alkmaar Zaanstreek combination, created in 1967 by a merger of Alkmaar ’54 and FC Zaan.
As in the years around 1980 the club will hear the last six years again at the top of the Netherlands. At the UEFA rankings of the best clubs in Europe is AZ anno 2010/11 as the third Dutch club in 45th place.
AZ is therefore one of the three Dutch clubs as a full member with the ECAs are connected. AZ of 2007-2011 also had a successful women’s section, that for financial reasons in the summer of 2011 after four years ceased to exist.
