Aston Villa Football Club is an English football club from Birmingham. The club is also known for The Villans and play at Villa Park in Birmingham. Club owner and chairman is American Randolph Lerner, who took over on 19
September 2006, after having purchased 90% stake. Subsequently, he used his right to purchase the remaining shares, so American now owns the club 100%. The other directors of Aston Villa are Charles C. Krulak, Bob Kain and Michael Martin. The club manager is Scotsman Alex McLeish, who joined 17th June 2011.
The club was founded in 1874 by Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood. The club is thus one of England’s oldest. The first game was against Aston Brook St Mary’s, Aston Villa won 1-0 on goals by Jack Hughes.
In 1876 Aston Villa got his own home, as it is for a 3-year period rented Perry Barr.
In 1881 the club won its first trophy; Staffordshire Cup and in both 1883 and 1884 reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
In 1887 won the first ever tournament after a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at The Oval. After just 13 years of life was Aston Villa already one of England’s biggest clubs.
