Carlsberg Breweries was founded in 1847, Carlsberg beer company is already famousin the world’s largest established by JC Jacobsen. Industrial center located in Copenhagen, Denmark. After joining the Norwegian conglomerate, Orkla ASA in January 2001, Carlsberg is the fifth largest beer company in the world. Carlsberg beer exports starting in 1868.

Foreign brewing began in 1968 with the opening of a Carlsberg brewery in Blantyre, Malawi. Some of the company’s original logo included a swastika. The use of the latter was discontinued in the 1930s, because of its relationship with political parties in neighboring Germany. Carlsberg founder JC Jacobsen was a philanthropist and avid art collector. With his wealth he amassed an impressive art collection is now stored in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen city center.
Jacobsen founded Carlsberg Laboratory in 1875 to work on scientific problems related to brewing. It displays the Department of Chemistry and Department of Physiology. Species of yeast used to make pale beer, Saccharomyces carlsbergensis, was isolated in the laboratory and named after it. The concept of pH was developed there as well as advances in protein chemistry. Laboratory is part of the Carlsberg Foundation until 1972 when it was renamed the Carlsberg Research Center and transferred to the brewery.
